Pastel (60cm framed tondo)
Original Exhibiting at IAPS (International Association Pastel Societies),
34th Juried Exhibition, in Albuquerque, USA, July 2019
Delighted to have this artwork juried and selected (1 of 3 New Zealander pastel artists selected), to exhibit amongst many talented pastel artists from around the globe at this year's IAPS exhibition, the international society of all pastel societies.
I loved the subtle softness of the hare & snowy surroundings in the beautiful reference photo and pastels seemed the perfect medium to try and do justice to this subtelty. Thanks so much to Karen Deakin Photography, a talented lovely friend from Edinburgh for the awesome reference photo. Karen and husband John were fortunate to spend a few days trekking in the mountainous highlands to observe and photograph these little guys. Such special animals..they turn white in the snowy winters as camouflage against predators, this guy still has some grey on him at this stage. I hope to one day venture up into the Scottish mountains to see them.
Open Edition Giclee Prints available
Soft pastels, pan pastels and pastel pencils were used for this artwork, a perfect medium for these colourings to achieve the softness
Closeup and on the easel to give a sense of scale
Framed in a high lacquered white frame, with white matboard. I love that these round tondo frames are a little point of difference for pastel artworks
