Acrylic on Canvas, 24x18in

The endangered Takahe is the world's largest rail bird, native to New Zealand. The Takahe was thought to be extinct in 1898, but was rediscovered near Lake Te Anau in 1948. Takahe birds have an unusual eating habit, in which they pluck grass with their beak, grasp it in one claw, and eat only the softest parts at the bottom of the leaf.

Original for sale, $650 (sides of the box canvas are painted).

Limited Edition prints & greeting cards available.
